After raising 4,609 euros, the campaign of the Hellenic Ornithological Society (HOS) against illegal killing on the Ionian Islands through the international platform indiegogo is over (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/a-safe-haven-for-wild-birds-changing-attitudes-towards-illegal-killing/x/2206667).  Although the initial goal of raising 25,000 Euros was not met, the campaign did manage to spread its message for “A safe haven for wild birds” (LIFE+11 INF/IT/000253, Changing attitudes towards illegal hunting in the north Mediterranean) with a view to protecting the European biodiversity by motivating members and volunteers of HOS as well as citizens in Greece and abroad.

The campaign was launched on May 8th and ended on July 7th and every visitor had the chance to show their support to the campaign towards illegal spring hunting on the Ionian Islands. The total number of supporters reached 85 and a few of them claimed the perks offered by HOS, such as souvenirs, presents, and their active participation in the implementation of the campaign. As for the impact of the campaign on social networks, the ‘likes’ on the indiegogo page were almost 1,000, while the viral video views, which was made especially for the purposes of the campaign, surpassed 1,200. Finally, the ‘likes’ on the project’s Facebook page (in greek) were tripled in these two months, during the campaign.
It should be noted that HOS will dispose the amount of money raised by its supporters to local and national actions of information and raising public awareness on spring illegal killing.

In order to fund the campaign, HOS used for the first time the method of crowd-funding, on which any similar actions will be based in the future.
