The Athens International Airport and the Hellenic Ornithological society welcome the public to a new photo exhibition of environmental and artistic awareness, titled “Birds and aircraft in parallel flights” from the 6th of September till the 31st of December.

Through 30 snapshots of birds and aircraft captured by Greek and foreign photographers, and accompanying printed and audiovisual material, visitors will have the opportunity to come closer to the world of birds of the Greek nature, focusing on their similarities in shape and motion with different types of modern aircraft.

Furthermore, the morphological comparison of birds with corresponding aircraft types, promotes as common ground the "journey" to destinations across borders and distances. Through the same allegory, this exhibition reminds us of the importance of protecting birds and their natural habitats, as well as the actions to be carried out to ensure a sustainable environment, both for birds and for humans.

The exhibition "Birds and aircraft in parallel flights" is open all day to the public from Friday, September 6, and until the end of the year, on display at the airport’s “Art & Environment” area (Departures, Entrance 3).

As of 2008, the Athens International Airport and the Hellenic Ornithological Society jointly run a programme for the preservation and protection of the Vravrona wetland, in cooperation with the Municipality of Markopoulo. The initiative, aiming to preserve this unique environment which combines a wetland and an archaeological site of rare beauty and importance, includes the clean-up of the area, the placement of signage, the improvement of walking paths and the creation of education material and programmes.
