The Hellenic Ornithological Society invites you to EuroBirdwatch 2013, the biggest bird celebration in Europe, held between 1 and 16 October in more than 30 Greek regions!
This year’s events focus on the millions of migratory birds that, this period, travel from Europe to winter in Africa. During their migration, birds cross thousands of miles while facing numerous perils in order to reach their destination. As 2013 marks 20 years of activities on migratory birds and their flyways, BirdLife International invites people of Europe to seize this chance and to discover the magic world of birds’ migration on 5-6 October 2013.
The main goal is to raise public awareness on the beauty of migration and the needs of migratory birds. This year’s celebration in Greece includes birdwatching tours, screenings and presentations, environmental games, photography exhibitions and many more activities that will offer to people of all ages the opportunity to experience a unique day in nature and to develop a better knowledge of the birds of Greece.
EuroBirdwatch is an annual event held in almost 40 countries on the same weekend and it is coordinated by BirdLife International. Last year, more than 70,000 participants from 34 countries watched over six million birds just during the first weekend of October! The events held in Greece are organized and coordinated by the Hellenic Ornithological Society with the collaboration of Municipalities, Protected Areas Management Bodies, local agencies and other organizations.
