On June 26 2014, environmental organizations Callisto, MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network, Hellenic Ornithological Society, Action for Wildlife and Ecological Movement of Thessaloniki lodged a complaint to all responsible parties regarding the ecological disaster that took place at the beach "Sahara", in Halkidiki. Those organizations denounced construction activity that had been initiated by a private party that purchased an area of 44.000 m2 (through the HRADF) from the government (on the coastline) by highlighting five important points that raise serious questions about the whole process of intervention and concession of the coastline, linked to: 1) the single-use beach concession license 2) the terms and conditions of the contract , 3) the Construction permit/approval for building work, 4) acts of classification of the area regarding its nature and 5) circumvention of the law on biodiversity (N.3937/11).
